Abstract
Genrikh Adamovich Tekhanovich (1939–2023) – a Russian scientist, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, a famous breeder, the oldest employee of the Kuban Experiment Station, a branch of the Federal Research Center N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources. Genrikh A. Tekhanovich devoted his scientific life to breeding and study of varieties, as well as to the search for forms of melon crops that are resistant to unfavorable environmental factors. His research was aimed at studying the potential hereditary variability of cultivated forms and wild species of watermelon, melon, pumpkin, zucchini and pattypan squash in order to identify economically important source material for breeding highly productive varieties and hybrids. He has created more than 33 new early-ripening, highly productive varieties of watermelon, melon and pumpkins with good keeping and high taste qualities. He paid special attention to the development of bushy and short-vine varieties and hybrids, suitable for labor-free cultivation, and resistant to diseases and pests.
